restring, redesign & repair

In Other services on Monday, September 8th 2008 by Romilly Tagged: , , , , , ,

If you have a piece of jewellery that is looking a bit tired and could do with a re-vamp whether re-stringing or re-design then this service can help you.

The repair service is for any piece that requires perhaps a new clasp or putting back together with the findings you have managed to save.

For the re-stringing I will do just that but there are other options open to you like changing the style of the clasp or make shorter and have what beads are left over turned into earrings.  For the re-design this is where I use the beads that you love and change the design whether the order of the beads or break them down to make another type of jewellery such as necklace to bracelets.

If you would like to use this service a non returnable deposit is required of £20, the deposit enables me to buy the materials required for your piece(s).  If the final total comes to under £20 the difference will be refundable if over the deposit amount the balance will need to be paid before postage.

Along with your piece(s) please include a cheque made payable to Romilly Norman and a small note giving me your instructions/wishes.  I would like you to send the jewellery to me using recorded delivery, this covers you
for insurance in transit and proof that I have signed for your parcel.  I will return the same way (signature required upon delivery).

If you would like to have a chat before deciding on using me please do not hesitate to contact me and we can go through your options.

my own jewellery collection

In Inspiration on Saturday, September 6th 2008 by Romilly Tagged: , , ,

Having loved and looked at many sparkly pieces through my childhood it continued in to my adulthood but with one difference, I am able to buy what I like.  I attend antique and collectors fairs in my area and I buy what I like not whether it can generate cash in the future.  The pieces are all costume jewellery from the 1950’s era with a sprinkle of new and inherited pieces.

Looking back in my jewellery box none are of any high value and have yet to be worn by myself, I think I buy the pieces more as part of history than to wear.  I was asked to look at my collection earlier in the year to find a piece suitable for my sister to wear on her wedding day, looking at the pieces I had been collecting over the years I didn’t realise I only bought necklaces and brooches, the same two items I loved as a child.

Why is it I sub consciously head towards necklaces and brooches at antique fairs?  Do I relate the two pieces to a happy and warm part of my childhood?  Or is it just because in the old movies the camera only really focused on the top part of the actresses body and the jewellery dominated the screen?

I would love to know the answers why I have this attraction to jewellery but I should imagine it will be one mystery that will not solved!
